K. Pickett, Sr.
Biography
Dwayne K. Pickett, Sr. is senior pastor of the 6,000-member New
Jerusalem Church in Jackson, Mississippi. He is a native of Itta
Bena, Mississippi in the Mississippi Delta.

Pastor Pickett graduated from Terry High School in Terry, Miss.

He earned a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from
the University of Southern Mississippi in May 1994.

He earned a Master of Education in Administration from the University
of Southern Mississippi in May 1995.
-
He obtained a Master of Arts in Christian Education from Reformed
TheologicalSeminary (Jackson, Miss.).

He received a Doctor of Philosophy in Christian Education from
New Orleans Baptist Seminary in May of 2011.

Pastor Picket is the Senior Pastor of New Jerusalem Church (Jackson,
Miss.).

New
Jerusalem has grown under Pastor Pickett’s leadership
from an estimated 180 members in 1995 to more than 6,000 members
in 2013.

New Jerusalem is now “one church in three locations,”
with five worship services every Sunday morning, all led at
staggered times by Pastor Pickett and his excellent worship
team and choir.

New Jerusalem Christian Elementary School serves 6-week-olds
to 6th graders in two locations in Jackson, Miss.

New Jerusalem is in the process of securing land and initiating
building programs, all with the goal of meeting the needs of
the whole person in Christ.

New Jerusalem has a long-term ministry as Pastor Pickett develops
pastors in key
regions of Africa.

New Jerusalem has numerous other ministries.

Pastor Pickett speaks worldwide at major churches and is sought-after
throughout the United States.

He served as the Executive Director of the General Missionary
Baptist State Convention Youth Department.

He served as Director of Christian Education for the Southern
Regional Youth Conference.

He teaches a monthly men’s Bible study with Dr. John Perkins;
their goal is to develop and encourage vital African-American
male evangelical leaders in Mississippi.

He is commissioned by the Christian Men’s Network to train
men worldwide.
Other recognition and service

Pastor Pickett successfully chaired the steering committee for
a Hinds County Bond Issue of $21.5 million.

He is a veteran of the Army National Guard and served in Desert
Storm/Desert Shield from September, 1990 to December, 1991.

He is a former assistant principal for Brinkley Middle School
in Jackson, Miss.
Pickett believes an effective kingdom church operates
continuously in four phases:
1) the educational or meditative phase (Christian education);
2) the evangelistic-ministry phase (taking ministry outside of
the church’s “four walls”);
3) the economic-financial phase (breaking the curse of poverty);
and,
4) the experiential phase (God’s demonstrated operations
of the Spirit in His church).
Pastor Pickett is married to Dr. Tracy Evans of Laurel, Mississippi.
He is the proud father of five sons: Julian, Kendedrick, Malcolm,
Dwayne, Jr., and Keishun.
